Putting the E in SEO

Sometimes, the E in SEO equals ‘entertainment.’

My friend and colleague David Temple found the following posting about top in-house SEOs, mentioning his name, my name, and our manager’s name.

Multiple sources of amusement follow:

  1. We aren’t really ‘in-house’ SEO. We provide agency-like services within a specific vertical segment. With 6,000 clients, we can’t argue that we’re in-house SEO.
  2. I have no freaking clue who this dude is.
  3. Putting our boss’ name near Matt McGee’s is hilarious. (And man, if you’re reading this, don’t let this comment negatively impact giving me a raise. I can be bribed.)
  4. He links to my other blog — which is about bicycle advocacy, not SEO.

Maybe I’ve had too much caffeine today, but even thinking about this makes me giggle. This is not to say I’m not a swell SEO. I am, perhaps because my background is content and database marketing, so I have a really solid grasp of conversion behaviors. But in-house? ‘Captive’ may be a better term.

Update: oooh, it was linked from Search Engine Land. And they didn’t even spell my name right.

    Entertainment is what makes SEO so great. Really the noise gets more attention than the signal which might make this blog popular if you keep up with the noise. Don’t worry, this dude has no freakin clue who you are either but must have found you on LinkedIn or something. You in fact are neither in house nor SEO, you are the captor.

    Glad to’ve provided entertainment!

    I did have a clue who you are, but I didn’t realize what services FindLaw was offering, so I didn’t realize the SEO work was being done on behalf of clients. It’s okay - I won’t delink you or anything at this point. I did note that there was a high degree of error possible when I posted the list.

    I’d be happy to fix your name’s spelling and aim the link to this blog.

    The blog link choice wasn’t random: when I originally checked this blog, it didn’t have any articles on it, and it appeared to’ve perhaps recently been set up. I prefered to link to an active blog than link to one that was potentially in indefinite stasis.
